Merging Hattatsu Ryu Karate fundamentals with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, our UMAC Champs program is an ideal program for children who like, or would benefit from, learning coordination, body control, balance, and the development of motor skills, which all transfer over to other sports and activities in everyday life. Martial Arts techniques are often introduced in the form of games, making it a fun learning experience. While we don’t give out false praise, when a child makes a mistake, we don't focus on the error, instead, we emphasize the correctly executed aspects of the move. Through this carefully layered positive reinforcement, we help the kids reach their full potential while reinforcing positive values and good character. Ranking up to a new belt is always a big day for our students, who earn them by reaching a little farther and working a little bit harder each day.
OUR PHILOSOPHY BEGINS WITH VERBAL ASSERTIVENESS TRAINING
One of the most pervasive and damaging forms of bullying is verbal harassment. The UMAC Champs program makes Verbal Assertiveness Training, or as we like to call it "Verbal Jiu-Jitsu," part of it's regular curriculum. We've devised a series of role-playing exercises to teach kids how to identify and manage the common threats associated with verbal harassment and relational bullying. UMAC Champs learn how to differentiate between "bullying" and "joking," and not only are kids taught how to speak assertively when necessary, but they also learn how to use direct eye contact and confident posture to deter bullies from targeting them.
